Treating compressed air requires the use of particulate filters and coalescing filters at a compressed air system. Particulate Filters are mainly utilized to remove solid particle contaminants down to 5 microns.

Particulate Filters are largely used in industrial applications that require clean compressed air. Cases include, but not restricted to, air compressors, air tools, air hoists, air spray guns, air compressors, and other pneumatic or air operated equipment. Particles act as abrasives within inner parts in pneumatic equipment; hence delivery of compressed air is vital to prolong equipment life.

How Does A Particulate Filter Work? As wet and dirty air is directed downward and outward in a circular motion by a turbine-shaped baffle, gross and liquid particles separate. Liquid and particles flow down the interior of a bowl to the bottom to be emptied. Partially filtered air then moves through the 5 micron filter press component.

What's the Right Way to size a Particulate Filter? Wilkerson Coalescing Filters are utilized to remove oil aerosols from compressed air. Wilkerson Coalescing Filters can remove water and aerosols down to 0.001 micron, and leave oil content from compressed air down to 0.003 parts per million (ppm) at 70 degrees F, in a pressure of 100 PSIG using a typical compressor lubricant.
It sounds confusing at first because coalescing means to unite, nevertheless coalescing filters operate to remove oil from compressed air. What a contradiction! The reason they are called coalescing filters is due to the way they operate. Fundamentally air flows inside outside, and as it moves through the filter press, fine liquid particles, such as aerosols, begin to accumulate or coalesce to form larger drops. Hence coalescing filters!
