Xbox One Controller Preview

With new systems come brand new controllers.

We were first taken aback from the Nintendo's debut of this Wiimote. Though exactly what the core players want is just your standard controller. We do not need motion ps3 controller on pc to play games; we need that we have something in our hand with thumbsticks and activates.

Now that I'm at E3 I had to receive my hands on a controller in another generation of consoles. The first I have to play is your Xbox One's. Microsoft has not had a perfect track record with controllers- anybody remember the Duke controller from the original Xbox? Luckily, this controller is more Xbox 360 then the Duke. The first thing you will see is that it looks a little bit bigger than a 360 controller. It's just an illusion; if anything it felt more comfortable and snug in my hands than the previous one actually did.

The most significant thing in my opinion they had to improve on was that the D-Pad. About the Xbox One's version, it's sleek (in a fantastic way), fast and it creates a beautiful click when you apply pressure on the mat. I'm interested to see how well a fighting game will play this new controller.

Call of Duty and Halo would be the Xbox's most popular games; they are both shooters and you always have to use both analog sticks. So was there a way to improve the already fantastic analog sticks from the 360? It sure feels like they did. Dare I say games console gaming is getting closer to the accurate sense of a mouse onto a computer?

Another issue I had with the Xbox 360 gamepad is that the Xbox Guide button. It's found in the top middle section of the controller and you can inadvertently hit it. Microsoft chose to allow it to be horizontal (and thus more difficult to push unintentionally) and put it in the very top of this controller. This is a wise place for the button and I really don't see a lot of people hitting it in the middle of gameplay.

Along with the other various upgrades made from the Xbox 360 controller, the activates got some love too, with rumble added to each. This seems absurd but as soon as you try it for yourself, you will start to wonder why we didn't have this earlier. When I had been playing Forza 5, I was power sliding into a sharp turn and you might feel the tires squeal upon the sidewalk through the activate rumbles. It was lively and inserted into the immersive feeling.

There are only a couple of things I had complaints about, most notably the left and right bumpers. They seem to have made them quite a bit bigger and while enjoying Crimson Dragon they didn't exactly feel good as I attempted to barrel roll out of the method of projectiles. This may also be a problem with the match but the buttons themselves were only okay. ps4 controller on pc is no way a significant issue and I'm sure it will just take time getting used to.
